REBEL RODDERS

PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE

In the beginning, 1988, we came together and became The Gateway Classics. We held our meetings in Barney Rice’s garage. Sometime during the early 90's the Rebel Rodders became a reality. Barney & Terri Rice, George & Jenny Tackett, Stan & Barbara Byrd were the original Rebel Rodders. Then along came all the others, Junior Tackett, Taft Stone, Fred & Linda Lawson, David Means, Duck Townsend, Paul King, Brownie Felts, Wayne Fugate, and many more.

The Rebel Rodders held car shows and cruises to raise money for special projects. The special projects were for the children of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. We had skate parties, Christmas parties, and donated to the Teddy Bear fund at the Mary Chiles Hospital. Rebel Rodders were known best of all for their Pre-49 car show and their famous cruises. The cruises began at Gil’s Blue Moon and then moved to downtown Mt. Sterling around the court house square. There was fun to be had by all. Games, fan belt toss, push rod drop, piston drop, toilet paper roll, and bubble gum blowing contests. Cars came from everywhere to experience the Rebel Rodder’s cruises. Over time the cruises faded away and the members of Rebel Rodders drifted in other directions.

In May of 2007 two men, Danny Townsend and David Catchings, decided to revive the downtown cruises in Mt. Sterling. With the help of George & Jenny Tackett and several other Rebel Rodders club members permission to use their name for these cruises was approved and a memory was reborn. The Rebel Rodders Cruises in downtown Mt. Sterling are back. In the age of technology, we wanted to take the Rebel Rodders up a few steps. The Rebel Rodders Cruise now has a web page. We hope you will take time to visit and cruise through our website. Comments, ideas, and suggestions are very welcomed. We will continue to make this as interesting as possible, so visit often and look for changes.

Many thanks to old Rebel Rodders from the new Rebel Rodders for making this all a reality.
